The Architect, the album that does not build Paloma Faith's career

In the career of an artist, there are works that are fundamental pillars in the construction of his/her way to stardom, others are like the bricks that give shape to that building and some are simply to forget. We cannot ignore the fact that, in many cases, there are stages of much fatigue, personal problems or exhaustion of ideas, which are obstacles that must be overcome in the artist's life and that surely inspiration and creativity will return in the future near. The ups and downs are not bad, in the music they help us to know in what we have failed and we take the temperature of the fans to redirect the course of our next works and we take impulse to vindicate ourselves in the creations that come. But there are also prolonged creative holes to which we must be very afraid and put hands to work at work so that ideas come back and do not allow us to sink increasingly into that hole. It is particularly difficult when you have a short career and have difficulties to penetrate all the markets in which we have proposed to be successful and the songs of previous albums, although they have turned out to be something interesting, have not been the bomb that explodes and forces everyone to see you and love you. It can also happen that our creative beta is over and no matter how much we want to continue exploiting it, we will not find more gold. The saddest cases in which we see that an artist falls into a hole, is when we realize that they are business commitments or the bad advice of those around them, which influence the way they compose the new songs of their next album or the change of style, the excessive interest for entering and pleasing a territory that is not yours or you do not know. I understand that sometimes there are experiments and personal searches and that also implies a high risk of being wrong, but if it was an honest attempt, then we must accept the error and pay the consequences without making a drama of it, this last possibility is a great opportunity to learn and a way to satiate your experimental spirit. Regardless of the reasons, if the artist has a genuine love for music and his/her career, the most important thing is to recognize everything that was wrong, rectify the mistakes and leave behind that bad experience with a lot of work and not let the moral goes down. We have to keep maintaining the interest to deliver quality material and not settle for small victories, we have to go to win the complete battle. My reflection on the album The Architect, by Paloma Faith, only reflects my concern for what I think is a hole in the career of a great artist.

RETURNING WILL NOT BE DIFFICULT

I met Paloma Faith's compositions more than ten years ago. I immediately fell in love with her and I got everything she had done before I met her and followed everything she did. I love the way she tells stories, which is not very common in the music scene today. She is an artist without postures who sometimes does not mind sacrificing her image if the sacrifice benefits her art and everything she has to say and tell, which is a lot. I have not missed any of her presentations in public, she is one of those few singers that you like to see because she has a great sense of humor, she does not take things so seriously, her band is very good and she gives everything on stage. I saw her at a summer festival, I think it was in the UK, but I'm not sure, in fact, I do not even remember the name of that festival, things were very hard for Paloma Faith. I could see how the singer was struggling with an audience that did not know her and was very rude to her, she did not participate during the songs of her presentation, it was like acting in front of a block of ice. And she never stopped smiling, did not stop singing and did everything possible to please that ungrateful and hostile audience that was in front of her. To each thing the singer said addressing the audience, they either did not answer or gave a loud booohhh!!! That is much more difficult than it seems, I do not know how she would not cry in front of everyone. I could not resist it. However, she and her band continued like professionals. That's the kind of warriors that conquer the heart of a music lover like me. Because we all go through adversity and we have to draw strength and pride from the deepest of our hearts to get ahead and not give up. That is why, for the great stories she has told us with truly good music, and for the battles she has had to overcome to make her way in this difficult music business, that is why I still believe in her, and I am sure she will soon have all the success that she deserves, for that reason, I think The Architect is just a little hole in the road that she will know how to overcome soon, because she is a warrior.

I WANT THE STORIES TO COME BACK

I understand her concern for politics and the issues that affect us all human beings, however, there are better ways to contribute to a healthier life than trying to pontificate. I think that is the profile of several of the songs on this album and it does not seem right to me. Sometimes, offering beautiful topics, with interesting stories and allowing people to forget a little of reality, contribute more than trying to give us life lessons or political positions. Musically it lost brightness in almost all the album, preferred the simplicity to the adaptation of music according to what is told in the song. Probably it is the album that Paloma Faith wants to forget and that it helps her to take impulse to return to the path of making songs that tell stories and to higher quality music. This singer and composer is very worthwhile, she has valuable albums that I want to talk about in future Narratives, what happens is that she only fell into a hole and I am sure that she will soon leave it.
